When author Elizabeth Jane Corbett (The Tides Between) invited me to onto her site for an in-depth interview, I must have answered with my morning coffee on my desk. Her questions stimulated some detailed answers. I am no horror-genre expert, far from it, but I do have some thoughts about the genre and I am happy that through The Cabin Sessions, readers who would not normally go near a horror novel, are taking an interest.

“This is a must read for all who like to be profoundly disturbed by their reading. Or for others, like me, who are simply keen to see the best of what this genre can hold.” – Elizabeth Jane Corbett.

Please go to her site to read the full review and interview. And do please share it around if you like it. Horror gets a bad rap sometimes. I’ve spoken to many many readers who shy from the genre, which is rich with fabulous writing.

I’m super excited and just a little bit spooked to be reading from my dark psychological thriller, The Cabin Sessions on The Panic Room Radio Show, hosted by horror/bizarro author and blog radio personality James H Longmore and Dark Poet Princess Xtina Marie.

new release! The Cabin Sessions – for those who like their horror dark and psychological.

The question for me is, which segment? Well here’s the weird bit. I recall a section I really like, bring up my Mobi file on my Tablet, scroll along at random…and somehow manage to land on the exact page.

Tune in tomorrow, Friday 3rd November from 1.30pm .  http://www.panicroomradio.com/

If you’d like to hear me, here are more dates for the diary…

I am delighted to announce that my debut dark fiction novel is available for preorder. Just click on the link.

This book is special to me. I wrote it at the same time as A Perfect Square. I see the novels as twins. Both contain dark themes. Both aim to disturb.

With The Cabin Sessions I set out to explore themes of domestic violence and child abuse, by exploring what might happen to people who live in absolute denial, or immobilising fear. At first I didn’t know if I could produce a character twisted enough for my purposes. Then along came Eva Stone. I wrote a piece about her for Bloody Good Horror Books.  http://bloodygoodhorrorbooks.com/?p=112

Writing horror is weird. I enjoy it because I get to unleash my depths. As for all the horror readers out there… #TheCabinSessions   Are you ready to be entertained???

As a novelist it doesn’t do to have favourites. Any more than a mother confesses her favourite child. I treasure each one of my literary babies. If I don’t, who will? After all, I gave birth to them, I did all the hard labour. And each book is special in its own way. Even that dark one with the brooding eyes, standing in the corner where the sun never shines.

I wrote The Cabin Sessions in 2015. The story possessed me, haunted me, disturbed me. I could scarcely believe the words appearing on the page. It also made me laugh. It’s as much psychological thriller as horror and will appeal to readers of both genres. Think Deliverance meets Twin Peaks.

HellBound Books  will be releasing The Cabin Sessions in December. My disturbed child will be immortalised between the covers, and I know this will make her and me very satisfied. “The Cabin Sessions – Are you ready to be entertained?”

What does an audience expect an author talk event will be like? Will there be a powerpoint presentation? A slide show of images of old drafts, with bits of text crossed out and heaps of writing in the margins? Will the author explain her writing process and provide insights into her creative journey?

I’ve never created a power point presentation in my life! And we can forget the slide show of drafts. I do have a writing process and I’ll definitely be talking about that, but what I most want to share are my sources of inspiration.

I am profoundly inspired by setting. For me, writing a novel is like moving house and relocating somewhere else. I have to enjoy the new space I’m inhabiting. I really have to want to be there.  My most recent novels were inspired by the time I spent living in the Dandenong Ranges and the Yarra Valley east of Melbourne.

Music also inspires me. Both novels have strong musical themes. So I’m delighted that musical duo Savannah Rose have offered to come along and play a few songs. Especially because duo member Suzanne Diprose played a major role in the creation of both stories!
